Inspiration from Laudato Si
The program draws significant inspiration from Laudato Si, the encyclical by Pope Francis, which emphasizes the moral responsibility of individuals and societies towards the environment. Laudato Si highlights the interconnectedness of all living beings and the Earth itself, urging us to adopt an ecological approach that respects and preserves the natural world. By integrating these principles into its framework, the “Friends of the Earth” program promotes a holistic understanding of sustainability, addressing environmental, social, and ethical dimensions.
The Sustainable Development Goals
Growing with Passion and Dedication
Friends of the Earth embodies the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Laudato Si’ by promoting global action for a more just, sustainable, and inclusive world. The SDGs aim to address pressing challenges like poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation, while Pope Francis in Laudato Si’ calls for “integral ecology,” emphasizing the harmony between humanity, creation, and social justice.
Through its focus on projects linked to specific SDGs, Friends of the Earth empowers individuals to take meaningful actions that reflect these shared values. It fosters a sense of responsibility for our “common home” by encouraging sustainable practices, cultivating solidarity, and inspiring care for both people and the planet. This synergy between the SDGs and Laudato Si’ provides a moral and practical framework for building a better future.
“The urgent challenge to protect our common home includes a concern to bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change.” (Laudato Si’, §13)
