Asia-Pacific Catholic Scouts Visit Macau for the Procession of Our Lady of Fátima
The Scout Association of Macau welcomed Catholic Scouts from across the Asia‑Pacific Region from 12 to 14 May 2026 for the annual Procession of Our Lady of Fátima. More than 30 Scouts and leaders from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines joined the three‑day pilgrimage, enriching their faith and strengthening international ties. Participants visited several of Macau’s historic churches, including St. Lazarus Church, St. Lawrence’s Church, and St. Joseph’s Seminary and Church, as well as the Ruins of St. Paul’s. These visits offered a deeper understanding of Macau—known as the “City of the Holy Name of God”—and its role in the history of evangelization in Asia.
The procession, one of Macau’s most iconic Catholic traditions, commemorates the 1917 apparition of Our Lady of Fátima. A flower‑adorned statue of Our Lady was carried from St. Dominic’s Church to the Chapel of Our Lady of Penha, accompanied by prayers, hymns, and a moving candlelit procession. Many visiting Scout leaders shared how deeply touched they were by the experience and by Macau’s rich religious heritage.
As in previous years, local Scouts played an active role, with some serving the community and several Catholic school–based Scout groups joining the event. This year, young Scouts from across the Asia‑Pacific brought fresh vitality to the journey. Their joyful singing and wholehearted participation highlighted the vibrant faith of the younger generation, beautifully complemented by the steady leadership and quiet dedication of their senior leaders. The pilgrimage strengthened bonds within the Scout community and deepened their shared journey of faith.
Macau – Catholic School-Based Scout Groups Unite for Thanksgiving Mass
About 200 Scouts, leaders, and parents from five Don Bosco–affiliated schools, all of which have Scout groups under the Scout Association of Macau, gathered on 16 May 2026 for a Thanksgiving Mass and Scout Fun Day. The aim of the event was to unite all Scout units within the Macau Don Bosco family, praying devoutly in thanksgiving for the blessings of Our Lady in the month of May and for global peace and the well‑being of all people. The Mass offered a meaningful moment for the community to come together in faith and gratitude.
During the Scout Fun Day session, a message of care for vulnerable members of society was shared. Participants also collaborated on an inclusive promotional video promoting “Deaf–Hearing Integration” and “Barrier‑Free Communication.”
The activity encouraged young Don Bosco Scouts to practice mutual respect, social inclusion, and the core Scout values of service and compassion, reflecting their commitment to living out faith through simple acts of love.
Hong Kong – Duty to God Day 2026: Spiritual Growth & Building the Future Together
On 28 March 2026, the Tai Tam Scout Centre was filled with energy as the Scout Association of Hong Kong hosted “Duty to God Day 2026.” Organized by the Scouts Religious and Spiritual Development Advisory Committee, the event brought together leaders from Hong Kong’s six major religions to inspire Scouts on their personal spiritual journeys.
The event attracted approximately 500 Scouts and guests, creating a vibrant atmosphere of fellowship. Through a variety of interactive booths and workshops, participants explored the diverse values and traditions of different faiths. These sessions offered more than just information; they provided a meaningful space for Scouts to appreciate the multicultural fabric of our community.
During the opening ceremony, the Chairperson called upon all members to focus on rebuilding resilience and fostering a deeper reverence for the world around them. The message was clear: by establishing a better relationship with nature and showing greater respect for all living things, Scouts can find a firmer footing in a changing world.
Religious leaders further enriched the day by sharing a universal truth: that we all share a common origin and a collective responsibility to the Creator. They reminded us that our primary duties are to honor God and love our neighbors, encouraging everyone to “hope for blessings and do a good deed daily.”
Korea – Korean Catholic Scouts’ Intermediate-Level Scout Training Course.
From May 23 to 25, a three‑day, two‑night intermediate Scout training session was held for the Seoul, Incheon, and Uijeongbu regional districts. A total of 32 leaders participated and obtained their intermediate qualifications. In particular, the participation of many Rover leaders made the training even more meaningful. May the Lord’s grace and blessings be with those who will guide youth ministry as His workers
Korea – World Girl Guide Patch Exchange Event.
On May 30, the Girl Scout World Patch Event was held. The program included the following themes:
- SDGs – Gender Equality
- Global Climate Change – Ocean
- Free Being Me
- Surf Smart / i-SAFE
About 70 participants completed various missions related to global issues such as the environment, peace, and human rights, and were awarded patches upon completion.
