On June 30, 2025, members of the Friends of the Earth program met with the delegation from the Scouts of Senegal for a key meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming Jamboree, scheduled from August 3 to 9, 2025.
Discussions centered on a shared commitment to developing activities that are both engaging and meaningful within the Jamboree program. Both parties agreed that these activities should highlight the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), drawing inspiration from Laudato Si’, the encyclical by Pope Francis calling for care and respect for our common home, the Earth.
A major point of discussion was how to integrate sustainability themes within interfaith dialogue, creating opportunities for young people from diverse religious backgrounds to come together around shared values of responsibility, respect, and unity.
The meeting was held in a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm, with both Friends of the Earth and Scouts of Senegal expressing strong interest in closely collaborating on the design and implementation of activities that will inspire and educate participants.
To ensure the success of this collaboration, a follow-up meeting will soon be organized to continue discussions and refine the joint initiatives.
The Jamboree program promises to be rich and meaningful. Sunday, August 3 will focus on raising awareness of the SDGs through workshops at the SDG Village. On Monday, August 4, scouts will explore their role as citizens through large-scale discovery games. Tuesday, August 5 will celebrate international friendship and peace with themed workshops and a major concert. Wednesday, August 6 will spotlight environmental concerns during Earth Tribe Day with nature-focused games. Thursday, August 7 will honor cultural diversity through the Scouts Arts Biennale and an immersion into Senegalese heritage. On Friday, August 8, attention will turn to global challenges, with feedback sessions on the SDGs. Finally, on Saturday, August 9, a closing ceremony centered on the Scout Law will mark the end of this unforgettable week.
This dynamic partnership reflects a strong commitment within the scouting community to promote environmental responsibility, interfaith solidarity, and education in universal values, in perfect alignment with the vision of the global scouting movement.
