Event Dates: February 7 to 9, 2025
Event Location: Liuying Qianshanpi Resort, Tainan, Taiwan
The three-day & two-night National Catholic Scout Camporee was held from February 7 to 9, 2025, at the Liuying Qianshanpi Resort. The theme of this camporee was “Pilgrims of Hope,” with approximately 230 participants from 23 Catholic schools and parishes across the country. Guests from South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and Vietnam were also invited to join. Ms. Francisca Vong, Chairperson and Mr. Albert Chiu, Vice Chairperson of Asia-Pacific Region, International Catholic Conference of Scouting, and Mr. Chang Wen-Shing, Acting Secretary-General of the General Association of the Scouts of China, notably attended the event, adding significance to the celebrations.
This campsite was divided into two major areas: the St. Francis campsite for cub scouts and the St. George campsite for scout members. There are many activities, which include campsite construction, modular activities, outdoor games, and a carnival parade. The objective of these activities was to assist young people in developing broader perspectives and international views through various life experiences, fostering their engagement in international activities.
The opening and closing ceremonies were held in the form of a Mass, presided over by Bishop John Lee Keh-mien. During the Mass, Bishop Lee explained to the scout participants the significance of the crucifixion on the cross beside the altar, emphasizing that Jesus, the Son of God, was crucified out of love for humanity. God loves us so much and never abandons us, so we can always hold onto hope in any situation. He encouraged the scouts to respond to the Lord’s grace and expressed gratitude for the hard work and efforts of the event organizing team.
In a modular activity themed “Alice in Wonderland,” participants had to find twelve matching playing cards within a limited time to help Alice accomplish her tasks. Additionally, during the base games, members engaged in exploratory activities such as the bread-baking factory, the circular maze, and the “Magic Seven,” where they learned skills like fire-making, first aid, and archery.
At the end of the Camporee, participants used creative props in the biblical carnival parade to perform biblical stories such as the Birth of Jesus, Genesis, Noah’s Ark, Moses crossing of the Red Sea, David defeating Goliath, and Daniel in the Lion’s Den. They vividly presented several biblical stories in an engaging way, allowing participants to deepen their understanding of the Bible while having fun. This not only facilitated communication and cooperation among members but also enhanced their understanding of biblical narratives, achieving the intended goals of the event. The Catholic Leaders from Korea also arranged a crafting activity for the scouts, in making small Korean gifts that added diversity to the event.
This event not only strengthened communication among domestic scout groups but also fostered cooperation with international Catholic scouts. Participants expressed that they have many fond memories from the camporee and experience the power of unity and friendship.
The camporee was not only an unforgettable experience but also a profound reflection of the scouting spirit. It enabled more youth to grow in nature, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and embrace the values of scouting.
Heartfelt thanks to all participating group leaders, church members, children and volunteers, whose enthusiasm and dedication made this camporee filled with joy and warmth. Special thanks to the Chairperson of ICCS-APR and the various committee members, as well as oversee scout leaders, strengthening our international friendships and communication amid our busy lives.
Looking forward to gathering again to create more beautiful memories together.
