In a constantly evolving world, where social, environmental, and spiritual challenges are multiplying, African youth need strong guiding principles more than ever to build a better future. In this context, the African Region of the International Catholic Conference of Scouting (ICCS Africa) stands as a key player, carrying an ambitious and inspiring vision for the years ahead. The new regional committee affirms its determination to strengthen the Catholic identity of Scouting in Africa while addressing contemporary challenges.
Providing Holistic Education Rooted in Catholic Faith
The 2024-2025 action plan of ICCS Africa is built around a clear global objective: to provide a comprehensive education, enlightened by the Catholic faith, enabling young people to become inspiring leaders in their communities. These leaders, deeply rooted in both Scout and Catholic values, will be agents of peace and development, capable of facing contemporary challenges with courage and integrity.
Passionate and dedicated, the members of the ICCS Africa regional committee are committed to implementing this vision through five major strategic pillars, each carrying concrete and innovative initiatives:
-
Catholic Faith at the Heart of Scouting: Reinforcing the Catholic identity of the Scout movement through training programs, spiritual gatherings, and strengthened support for young people in their faith journey.
-
Active Presence in the Church and Society: Supporting Catholic Scout organizations within National Scout Organizations (NSOs) in drafting canonical statutes and establishing governance strategies aligned with their religious identity, while promoting interfaith dialogue and fostering friendships across different religious traditions.
-
Empowering Youth and Leadership Development: Equipping young people and Scout leaders through training in the Church’s social doctrine and ecological education, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The “Friend of the Earth” program will be promoted to raise awareness among young people about environmental issues and encourage them to take action for the planet’s preservation.
-
Developing Strategic Partnerships: Collaborating with Episcopal Conferences, Catholic organizations, and development stakeholders to provide strong support for Catholic Scouting and enhance its influence in Africa.
-
Communication and Brand Marketing: Strengthening ICCS’s presence at regional events and promoting its brand identity.
The 2024-2027 ICCS Africa action plan is a call for collective commitment. It invites every member of the African Catholic Scouting community to contribute to this ambitious vision by forming young leaders capable of transforming their communities and building a better future.
The new regional committee, under the leadership of President Agatino Géo Barnabé MANANKAJAINA, is determined to establish ICCS Africa as a key player in the educational and spiritual landscape of the continent. Together, we can rise to the challenges of our time and provide young people with an education that prepares them to be witnesses of faith and architects of peace.
Join us in this exciting and meaningful journey, and help turn the vision of ICCS Africa into a reality for future generations.
