This pilgrimage follows the footsteps of Vincent Lee, who moved the remains of Father Andrew Kim Daegun, the first priest in Korea. On September 16, 1846, Father Kim was executed by beheading at Saenamteo, and his body was left in eight pieces somewhere on the sandy beach of Saenamteo. A 17-year-old boy, Vincent Lee, who witnessed this scene, waited for an opportunity to recover the body. After about 40 days, he managed to gather the remains, wrapping the head in a cloth and covering the other limbs with a blanket, and began his journey towards Mirinae. Fearing detection by the authorities, he hid during the day and climbed the rugged mountains at night, successfully transporting Father Kim’s remains to the Mirinae community after about five days of walking. We hoped that their four-day pilgrimage, covering approximately 80-90 kilometers, would serve as an opportunity to deepen their faith.
