The ICCS Friends of the Earth programme was officially launched in Cairo, marking a significant step in global efforts to protect the environment and promote sustainable development. This initiative strengthens the commitment of the International Catholic Conference of Scouting (ICCS) to the principles of Laudato Si, Pope Francis’ encyclical calling for action to “care for our common home.”

The programme aims to mobilize Scouts and Guides worldwide to carry out environmental projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It answers Pope Francis’ call for concrete action against ecological challenges, empowering young people to lead the way in preserving our planet.

The launch was highlighted by an inspiring project from Madagascar, presented by local Scouts. The project, showcased in the images below, exemplifies innovation and dedication to environmental preservation. It serves as a model for future initiatives across the globe.

As Pope Francis said in Laudato Si, “The Earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth” (Laudato Si, 21). However, with programmes like ICCS Friends of the Earth, there is hope that young generations will rise to the challenge, restoring and protecting the environment for the future.

The ICCS looks forward to receiving new projects from Scouts and Guides worldwide, offering them a chance to join this global movement for sustainability. Together, we can make a difference, ensuring the Earth remains a safe and sustainable home for all.

Join ICCS Friends of the Earth and take action for a better planet today!
