The Catholic Girl Guides and Scout Guild (“the Guild”) was established in 1949 and is a lay association under the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong. The Guild aims to unit all Catholic Scouts and Guides, Catholic Groups / Companies and their sponsoring bodies, in their capacity as members of the Catholic Church, to adhere to th e spirit of the Gospel, to strengthen the study of Catholic teachings and spiritual development, to practice the commandment of love, and to play their religious roles in promoting the Scouting Movement.
The 75th Anniversary Thanksgiving Mass was held on 16 November 2024 at the Mary Help of Christians Church in Kowloon. The Guild invited the Most Reverend Joseph Ha (Auxiliary Bishop of Hong Kong) to preside over the Mass, with the His Eminence Cardinal Joseph Zen (Bishop Emeritus), Rev. Denis Kong (the parish priest of the Mary Help of Christians Church), Rev. Matthew Chan from St. Louis School, and Rev John Tsang concelebrating. The Guild’s spiritual Advisor, Rev. Deacon Peter Leung and Rev. Deacon Francis Tang, assisted in the ceremony, which was attended by over 150 members of the Catholic scouts, leaders, guests, and friends.
In his sermon, Bishop Ha explained the profound meaning of the Gospel passage, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away,” reminding us that the words of Jesus Christ are eternal and unchanging, and that He is our Lord. Regardless of the past, present, or future, Catholic scouts and girl guides must do their utmost to be evangelists of the gospel, bear witness for the Lord, and love our God.
In the presence of Bishop Ha, we conducted the handover ceremony for the Guild ‘s new and outgoing chairpersons, and a commissioning ceremony for the Guild’s executive committee was held to bless them. We express our gratitude to the Mary Help of Christians Church for providing the venue, allowing us to hold this celebration successfully.
