From March 15 to 17, the Euro Med committee visited the Hungarian scout organization Magyar Cserkészszövetség.
The committee had a consultation with Adorján Kovács, chair of the Scout organization, and László Hegyi from the Catholic Scout Committee Táborkereszt.
We had a good reception and got to know the organisation better. In particular how the scout organisation provides religious and spiritual education for its members. The collaboration between Catholic and Protestant scouts was also interesting and an example of how a scout association can work interreligiously or eucheumenically.
The committee visited the scout museum in Gödöllö, where the 4th World Jamboree in 1933 took place. We heard how scouting looked like like until the Second World War, how it was under the communist occupation, and how scouts and guides maintained their ideals and beliefs until the fall of the regime- and passed it to the next generation.
We were impressed by the Hungarian scouts and hope that they can inspire other scout organizations that are members of ICCS. Our committee thanks the Hungarian scout organization and the Catholic committee Táborkereszt for their hospitality and friendship.
