With the blessing from the Bishop of Hong Kong, the most reverend Stephen Chow, S.J., “The Catholic Scout Guild” was renamed to “The Catholic Girl Guides and Scout Guild” (“Guild”) on January 1, 2023.
The Guild aims to unit all Catholic Scouts and Guides, Catholic Groups / Companies and their sponsoring bodies, in their capacity as members of the Catholic Church, to adhere to the spirit of the Gospel, to strengthen the study of Catholic teachings and spiritual development, to practice the commandment of love, and to play their religious roles in promoting the Scouting Movement.
As the Guild welcomes both members of the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association and the Scout Association of Hong Kong to take part in our activities, we believe that including both ‘Scout’ and ‘Girl Guides’ in our name means further enhancement of our cooperation.
With this background, the Guild supported the annual Caritas Charity Bazaar in Nov 2022, we set up counters and raised around HK$17,000 (~US$ 2,200) for Caritas, which offers relief and rehabilitation services to the poor and the distressed. Caritas–Hong Kong (Caritas) was founded in July 1953 by the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong. With nearly 70 years of history, Caritas now turns to a multi-service non-governmental organization rendering help to different sectors of the community in response to Hong Kong’s changing needs. The wide-ranging services provided by Caritas include social work services, education, medical care, community development and hospitality, etc.
