Summer 2013 was very active for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and its National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS). For the first time, BSA National Jamboree was hold in its new site, The Summit Bechtel Family Reserve in Mount Hope, West Virginia. And there, was NCCS promoting the “Keep the Lamp Burning” Celebration of 100 Years of Catholics in Scouting. Many Scouts from around the world visited the NCCS pavilion, located at the Faith and Beliefs Zone at the Summit Center. NCCS promoted “Keep the Light Burning” (KLB) program by teaching Scouts how to make a rosary and providing instructions on the way to pray this devotion. Also, Scouts were asked to pray the Rosary for Peace on the Saturday that Pope Francis asked for prayer and fasting.

On Sunday, July 21, the Papal Nuncio to the United States celebrated the Holy Mass at the At&T Summit Stadium, where NCCS members were able to present him with a few gifts for Pope Francis and his excellency.  The “Keep the Lamp Burning” patch from Japan, the International Awareness Award and the “Pray the Rosary” patch were among these gifts.

The 2013 BSA National Jamboree also provided the opportunity to NCCS members and the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) staff as well as a contingent from Japan representing the 2015 World Jamboree to meet and planned activities to promote two important programs at the international level, “Messengers of Peace” and “Keep the Light Burning”.
