Manila, Philippines – The 9th ICCS Asia-Pacific Regional Conference was held in Manila, Philippines, with the topic “Keep the Lamp Burning“, matching the theme of the 100th Anniversary of Catholics in Scouting. The Conference was run from 21st to 24th October, 2013, at the premises of the ‘Boy Scouts of Philippines’ Association.
Participants come from eight countries, including Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macao, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam (some of them as observer, since they are not ICCS members yet).
The Conference sessions were opened with a Mass presided by Mgr. Rolando Tirona, Archbishop of Caceres; the Welcome Message, by Mr. Wendel E. Avisado, Acting Secretary General of BSP, and Introduction of the Conference and the participants by Mr. Anthony Thng, Regional Secretary of ICCS-APR.
The first Working Session was run by Bp. Leopoldo C. Jaucian, SVD, newly appointed as a chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Youth, on the theme: “Youth as Target and Agent of New Evangelization“. Mgr. Jaucian also celebrated the Mass on Wednesday 23rd, when all the participants visited the Catholic Bishops’ Conference Centre.
The other Working Sessions of the Conference focused on:
“ICCS 100 Years – Keep the Lamp Burning”, by Fr. Petersen Tieng, National Chaplain of BSP.
“Communication Using Information Technology”, by Br. José A. Warletta, member of the ICCS Communication WG.
“The ICCS-APR web site”, by Yasser F. Sarona and Anthony Thng.
“How to promote Catholic Scouting in ICCS-APR Member Countries”
The las sessions were focused on themes related to ICCS-APR Membership Growth; membership fees; Participation in the Youth Commissions in Church, as well as several events planned and organized by different ICCS-APR Member Countries:
– ICCS Centennial Camp, in Philippines
– Pilgrimage in Vietnam
– ‘Pekan Kererabatan 2014’, in Indonesia
– ICCS Scout Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, end of 2014.
Within the Conference Program, there were some interesting visits: A courtesy reception by Hon. Jejomar C. Binay, Vice-President of Philippines; St. Augustin Church and Museum; Las Piñas church and the Bamboo Organ, and the inspirational Scout Group ‘Ticket to Life’, and Mass at the Los Remedios parish.
Excellent coordination of the Conference, with the estimable and efficient support of the BSP Association.
Mr. Okano, a board member of JCCS visited Bishop Umemura, at Yamate church, in Yokohama, on June 27th.
